Resolutions

I know the blog-osphere is going to be jam packed full of New Year’s Resolutions at this time, but having spoken to my closest friend about what my resolutions are for the next year, it seems right to share them. I think partly because they’re very similar to what she and most other people want to sort out too, and partly because if I have some record of them here, I’ll feel more committed and less likely to break them.

I know, in reality, these things aren’t all going to succeed. But equally, I know that there are things which I will succeed at – and that I will learn a lot through each and every thing on my list.

I do genuinely believe that something as trivial as the beginning of a New Year shouldn’t be the only time someone can decide to make positive change in their lives. I get the concept of new beginnings and fresh starts, but before I start I do want to stress that you can better your life at any time. Don’t wait until Monday to start the diet, don’t wait until 2018 to complete resolutions that you failed in 2017! In fact, don’t consider them failures. Falling off the wagon is a part of human nature and if you got to read my post about failure a few months back, you’ll know that I’m of the opinion that failure of certain things occurs in the place of successes with other things. Let’s face it, we can come up with extensive lists of the things we wish we could change over the coming year, but we might still miss something very important off of it. The only way to know what that is is to live your life.

So what are my resolutions?

  • Be more organised

I’m the kind of person who functions better when I know exactly what I’m doing, when I’m doing it. I’m obsessed with to-do lists and I’m not sure I could survive without them. But still, I’m sure that I could be even more organised. I want to feel like my life is just a bit more together, dividing my time between things that are essential to me and not letting things slip. I’ve got loads of goals for 2017 and the only way I’ll be even close to achieving them is by being organised. I’ve just ordered myself a weekly meal planner and shopping list to stick up on the wall at home, so now it’s just down to exercise routines, blog schedules and even better to do list skills! (I use Todoist, which I think is amazing, especially as you get points according to how good you are at ticking things off).

  • Spend less time on my phone/social media

Ok so this is a bit of a weird one considering that I’m a blogger and therefore social media is important, but I spend a lot of my spare time scrolling through news feeds and I just feel like I’m losing out on time that I could spend doing other, more valuable things. I’d like to be able to leave my phone at home and go out for a walk with my boyfriend or sit up and have a late night chat rather than laying in bed scrolling simultaneously! It’s really difficult to live without social media and my phone – I’m certainly not making a clean break either – but I think if I could cut out a few hours a day I’d be much happier. By far my most difficult goal of 2017…

  • Blog more

So yes, despite the above resolution, I am going to put more effort into my blog and also other people’s blogs. I want to spend more time reading other posts and writing posts that aren’t just empty words, I want to write about things that are more meaningful to me, spend more time planning and thinking carefully rather than just churning out something every now and then. The fact is, as much as I love having followers who regularly read my blog, it’s ultimately for myself. I truly believe that if I generate content that I love, then my followers will probably love it too. Here’s hoping anyway! I know there are always going to be lapses in posts, which is why I want to dedicate time each week to write, edit, take photographs or research posts. Basically, 2017 is going to bring a lot of positive change to my blog – changes that I hope are exciting for my readers!

  • Do more of the things I love

It used to be impossible to tear me away from a book – now, I can barely find the time to read. I find this really sad to be honest, which is why I’m making it a goal to dedicate more time to things that I enjoy.

  • Exercise more

This is actually a fairly easy one, because in a few week’s time I will be walking daily. I’m hoping that this is going to get me back to my previous level of fitness and also keep the food baby at bay. I don’t want to lose tonnes of weight necessarily, but I do think it’s important that I don’t keep putting any on!

  • Eat healthier food/plan meals ahead

See above! So my favourite Christmas present this year was a slow cooker, I’ve been wanting one for months! I’m really excited to make healthy dishes that will be sat waiting for me when I get home! I’m thinking gorgeous soups, vegetable curries and tender meat…I’m such a saddo, but I’m genuinely so excited to get a proper meal plan going and find the pleasure in foods I’ve not tried before.

  • Study hard

As you most likely already know, I work in Digital Marketing. I’ve got a lot to learn still (it’s a very dynamic career and I’m still only taking my first steps in it!). The more time I dedicate to learning more, studying hard and passing relevant qualifications, not just accepting doing an ok job at work but doing an amazing job. I worked my butt off in school and university, I’m not about to stop now!

  • Dedicate more time to relationships

2016 has been a big reminder for everyone that life is short. You just don’t know how much time you have left. This is a bit terrifying in a way, but I’m attempting to put a positive spin on it and really focus on getting the best out of the relationships I have with people. I don’t want to have any regrets, I don’t want to wish I’d made more of an effort with anyone. I want to make beautiful memories and at the end of the day, I want to say I had a good run. You can have everything in the world, but if you don’t have those important relationships, there might as well be nothing.

  • Spend less money

Need I say more?

So those are my goals for 2017. I’m feeling optimistic and I’ll be sure to keep you all updated throughout the next year! Please do share your goals with me too – a problem shared is a problem halved after all!
